Skillingmark
Eda municipality is a border municipality located in western Värmland. The municipality runs along the Swedish-Norwegian border, which has affected the development of the district in a positive way, for example, through well-developed border trade.

Eda municipality is made up of the communities, Eda, Järnskog, Köla and Skillingmark and has a total population of approximately 8,600 people. Eda is a sparsely populated municipality with a little over half (53 %) of the population living in population centers, of which 23% live in the central district, Charlottenberg. Our Swedish neighbour municipalities are the municipalities of Arvika and Årjäng. In the west, we border Norway.

The geographic location along the Norwegian border creates conditions for cross-border cooperation. Here, you can reach 2 million people within a 12-mile radius and the majority of business operations are in industry and commerce.

Eda is known for its abundant club activities. There is a large selection of different leisure activities that stimulate both the mind and body. The non-profit organisations operate their facilities with the help of municipal subsidies.

For those interested in the municipality’s history, there is the Eda Glass Museum where you can view beautiful and unique glass objects from 1835 up to 1953. Eda Skans (the fortress at Eda) is another sight worth seeing in the municipality along with the Eda Skans Museum, which is located in Åmotfors.
Golfplayer

If you like golf, there is the Noresund golf course. The golf course is a challenging park and woods course with a lot of water along the fairway and over broad inlets between the player and the green.

Valfjället Vinterlekland The Valfjället Ski Center offers well prepared trails and newly-marked slopes during ski season. This is a great place for children and is located close to housing, a winter playland, ski school, restaurants, etc. The close proximity to Lake Hugn, with the possibility for ice fishing, is an excellent complement to your visit.

Vit älg In Eda you are always close to nature, and if you’re lucky you can see both wolves and white elks. There are several large lakes in the municipality; the largest is Bysjön. Small primeval forest areas are located in the Skillingmark valley. In the rich deciduous forest areas you can see the threatened species, white-backed woodpecker.

Fredsmonument i Morokulien In the middle of Scandinavia, on the border between Norway and Sweden, is the peace monument, Morokulien, which is a symbol for nearly 200 years of peace. Morokulien got its name from the radio program, ”Across all borders”, from 1959. The Norwegian word, “moro”, and the Swedish word, ”kul”, have the same meaning, “i en” (in one), hence the name, “Morokulien”. In 1914, an 18-meter high peace monument was erected to commemorate 100 years of peace between the former union countries. Just like the people on both sides of the border, the monument rises in two parts from the same base. At the top, they are united again in a friendly handshake across the border.

Eda municipality

Eda kommuns kommunhus The municipality is a politically-governed organisation. In other words, elected representatives of a municipal council and municipal executive board and other boards make decisions regarding the municipality’s operations.

The municipal council is the municipality’s governing political authority and makes decisions in all matters and issues of greater importance for the municipality and its inhabitants. For example, this applies to goals and guidelines for the operations of the municipality, the budget, tax rates, taxes and fees, organisation and working methods. The municipal council also appoints members to the municipal executive board and other boards as well as municipal companies and associations.

The municipal executive board prepares all matters that will be taken up by the municipal council and is responsible for ensuring that the municipal council’s decisions are implemented. The municipal executive board leads and coordinates the planning and follow-up of the municipality’s finances and operations. Every individual board is then responsible for ensuring that their operations are carried out in accordance with the goals and guidelines and within the budget that the municipal council has established.

To implement the politicians’ decisions in practice, there are a little more than 600 employees. They are the ones who handle all the everyday activities in the municipality such as schools, healthcare, welfare, streets, parks, libraries and leisure activity facilities. The employees provide service to the residents of the municipality.
